Sinai – a unique Trekking Retreat-Experience with Community Emmanuel

Much could be written about the spiritual trekking-reteat in Sinai. But I could never find enough words to describe it accurately. Thus I´d like to share with you some pictures to convey to you in that way, what this 8-day trip through the Egyptian desert meant to me.

This truly inspiring and unique trip was organized and lead by the christian Community Emmanuel (for further infos: http://www.emmanuel.info/) for youngsters between 20 – 35 years of age.

SINAI… ASPECTS of EMPHASIS on this desert-trip:

THE HOLY SCRIPTURE - Absorbing words of truth while walking in silence. 

CONTEMPLATION - Searching God within and around us, becoming still to let him fully enter our mind and heart.

 

PURIFICATION - Letting God take over. Asking him for help and forgiveness, on aspects within our life, where our ego rules, where we feel incapable, out of control, restricted or weak.

 

OBSERVATION - Being attentive. Realizing opportunities of spiritual growth.

 

DISCERNMENT - Asking God for guidance in distinguishing wisely between the different options of life .

 

MESSENGER OF LIGHT - Taking positive actions in this world. In beginning to live more and more according to the gospel we can become a shining example for the validity of the teachings of Christ.

 

FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT - No matter how often we “fall” we call upon the never failing help of God. In abandoning us into his merciful arms, we choose the road from darkness to light, from sadness to joy.

 

THE FLOWERING OF LOVE - Sacrifice can seem like a dry thorny bush. But if we act selfless and let LOVE be our “motor” (instead of the feeling of guilt or obligation), than the sacrifice that seemed bitter in the beginning, will loose its thorns. It will cease to be “a sacrifice” and its fruit will eventually blossom.

Love changes everything. Even the dry desert.

PRAISE - God is great. God is powerful. God is ever new. God inspires us to sing praises to him without ceasing. Sometimes we do this within our hearts while outwardly practicing silence, sometimes we praise him aloud, singing altogether to him from the top of a mountain.
